When you buy Tidal Wave 4 swabs, spore visibility is dependent on the characteristics of the spores themselves. As a result, not all spore swabs will look the same visibly. Despite any visible differences, they’re still viable for microscopy research.

Tidal Wave 4 Spores Information

Tidal Wave 4 is the fourth isolation in a series of Tidal Wave isolations done by Magic Myco (more information on their other amazing work can be found HERE). The original Tidal Wave is a hybrid of two of some of the most popular Cubensis varieties: B+ and Penis Envy. Tidal Wave is favored among researchers because in the wild, its mycelium produces very quickly and it seems to be resistant to many contaminants that would otherwise overtake it in the wild. 

As noted before, Magic Myco has done a lot of great work with Tidal Wave that has resulted in a multitude of isolations. Tidal Wave 4 specifically is a clone that was further studied because of its tendency to produce massive specimens. Interestingly, the clone that led to Tidal Wave 4 came from the same batch as the clone that created Tidal Wave 3 (also known as The Pumpkin Heads). Tidal Wave 4 is a great addition to the avid spore collector’s library for a few reasons: it has an interesting and complex history, it is the hybrid of some of the most popular Cubensis varieties, it is relatively easy to study, and it has the potential to continue mutating into more crazy isolates- many of which are just waiting for discovery! 

Microscopic Features

Spores of this variety are dark purple to brownish. The spores are also subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on 4-spored basidia. They have large golden caps (like B+) that have a convex to conical shape. The stems are very thick in proportion to the cap (like Penis Envy). Also similar to Penis Envy, it has gills that are very tightly packed together, however they are relatively low spore producers.
