Disclaimers

When buying Psilocybe Ovoid swabs, be aware that they’re considered “active spores” which are for microscopy purposes only. DO NOT CONTACT US ABOUT ANYTHING REGARDING CULTIVATING OR GERMINATING ACTIVE SPORES.

Shipping is unavailable to California, Idaho, & Georgia. These 3 states strictly prohibit the possession of spores from psilocybin and psilocin producing mushroom species. Orders to these states are refused and voided. Any payments made for orders to CA, ID, or GA will incur a $5 cancellation fee.

The provided images are for informational and educational purposes only and are used as a reference point only. Sonoran Spores acquires all spores and photos from outside, trusted sources in a legal manner. We do not condone or participate in the cultivation of psilocybin or psilocin producing mushroom species.

When you buy Psilocybe Ovoid swabs, spore visibility is dependent on the characteristics of the spores themselves. As a result, not all spore swabs will look the same visibly. Despite any visible differences, they’re still viable for microscopy research.

Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata Spores Information

Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata is a more newly described mushroom species. Because its scientific name is quite the mouthful, many simply refer to it as “Ovoid” as there is no common name for it, yet. This species was first discovered growing in nature in Montgomery Country, PA. In fact, it’s mainly found growing wildly in the eastern and southern US. However it’s been spreading across North America and there’ve been new findings in the western US. They also naturally occur in Germany, Switzerland, and a few other European countries. In nature, they most commonly grow on wood chips or mulch near rivers, streams, or other bodies of water. Furthermore, the Ohio River Valley specifically is known to have a very healthy population of this species.

Although their seasonality depends on their region, in the US they tend to grow from April to June, although sometimes even as late as November. They’re most abundant during May, especially after consecutive days of rain. A key identifying characteristic of Ovoids is that they grow in large clusters, often over 100 specimens strong. Due to their many look-a-like species, they will make an excellent addition to your spore library especially if you have an interest in mushroom

We make and package the all of the Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata spore swabs in front of Laminar Flow Hoods with HEPA filters. These HEPA filters have an efficiency rating of 99.97%. Meaning that the filter removes 99.97% of particles in the air. However, because these spores are from wild specimens, there still may be contaminations visible underneath the microscope.

Microscopic Features

It is important to note that Ovoids do have look-a-like species that they are also similar to genetically. The look-a-likes include: P. subaeruginosa (originates in Java), P. septentrionalis (originates in Japan), P. wayanadenis (originates in India), and P. caerulipes (originates in N. America). You can distinguish Ovoids from the other species by their seasonality and their spore shape. Their key distinguishing feature is their rhomboid shape spores.

P. Ovoid Spores are dark purple to dark brown in color. At face view, they have a rhomboid shape and in side view they have a subellipsoid (ellipse) shape. Additionally, lab quality P.Ovoid spores are approximately 6 x 6 micrometers in size.  The Caps are convex or umbonate in shape (they become more flat with age) and the edges are commonly wavy. The stipe has a ring which is another key identifier.

Due to the fact that these spores are from wild specimens, there is a higher chance that you will find contaminations underneath the microscope.
