Origin Information

Blue Meanies are a very well known and popular variety of Cubensis due to both its reliability and strong performance under the microscope. It’s important to note that there are some other mushroom species that are nicknamed Blue Meanies, such as Psilocybe azurescens and Panaeolus cyanescens. However, the particular spores in this listing are of the Cubensis species like many other sought-after varieties belong to like Golden Teachers and Jedi Mind Fuck.

No one is 100% certain where Blue Meanies originated from, although many agree that they were first found in Australia. Australia is a hot spot for many mushroom species and experts estimate that there are 20-30 psychoactive species that can be found on the continent! 

The reason this Cubensis variety was dubbed as “Blue Meanies” is due to the fact that they bruise blue very easily. Psilocybin containing mushrooms are known to do this when handled or damaged, and Blue Meanies are no exception. In fact, even the smallest physical touch or jolt will cause them to turn a deep, dark blue color. 

For a long time, it was a mystery as to how and why magic mushrooms turned blue. But with recent studies, it was discovered that a series of reactions occur with the psilocybin when the mushroom is disturbed. When the mushroom is touched or damaged, the psilocybin in that area begins to oxidize into psilocin and a series of chain reactions follow. Microscopic Features

Blue Meanies spores are dark purple to brownish spores. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on 4-spored basidia. Prints are generally 25-75mm in diameter with a convex to conic shape and pretty good spore depositors.
