When you buy Psilocybe Cyanescens prints, spore visibility is dependent on the characteristics of the spores themselves. As a result, not all spore spore prints will look the same visibly. Despite any visible differences, they’re still viable for microscopy research.
Psilocybe Cyanescens Spores Information
Psilocybe Cyanescens are a unique version of mushrooms that are just as interesting to study as they are to look at. They are easy to notice with their “Wavy Cap” feature and light brown caps that make them blend in to the ground. As they are a wood loving species they are commonly found throughout woodland areas in northern europe. From here they have spread around a little bit and now they can also be found growing in the woods of the Pacific North Western.
This mushroom is a great variety to add to your spore library as it is not as widely available as others like Psilocybe Cubensis. Not only are the spores more rare to come across, but they are too a beautiful mushroom. It starts with its strong white, wispy mycelium that starts its stem. Their stems are usually a grey/white but are often bruised a deep blue/green as they are very sensitive to physical contact. This then leads to a orange/brown cap that starts off closed. It is an umbonate shape until it flattens with maturity. But as it flattens, it doesn’t become the typical dinner plate that most others do, but instead gains crazy waves throughout the edge of the cap. This is often why they are referred to as “Wavy Caps.”
So whether you are buying these spores because they are rare to come across or because they come from a beautiful mushroom you’re interested in studying, these spores are for you!
These spore prints were collected from wild Psilocybe Cyanescens specimens which were found in Washington state. Note that working with spores collected from the wild may result in more contaminants, however they contain much more genetic diversity compared to most known cultivars.
Microscopic Features
Psilocybe Cyanescens strain mushrooms have dark purple to black spores which are approximately 9×12 micrometers in size. The spores are elliptical in shape. In addition, they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps vary from 2-5cm in diameter with a central bump until they mature, flattening and getting waves throughout.
