Yeti x Melmac LC Information

Liquid culture syringes (also sometimes called ISO’s) contain mushroom genetics that are more stabilized than normal multispore syringes (MSS). Great care has been taken to isolate the strongest, fastest, and most hardy genetics that will provide vigorous and more consistent research under the microscope. Multispore syringes contain a great deal of genetic diversity, and therefore can present a multitude of different phenotypes. On the other hand, liquid culture syringes have been stabilized in order to present a more uniform phenotype which will provide the most optimized and consistent research.

As you can imply from the name, this is an exciting Cubensis hybrid of TAT Yeti and Melmac, which is an isolate of Penis Envy. This variety is unique because it brings together 2 different and very popular genetic lines: The TAT Genetic Line and the Penis Envy Genetic Line. Both of which are extremely sought after in the microscopy community. 

Specimens of this hybrid commonly take on the common Melmac shape, while having the ruffled, crinkled edges of Yeti. The center of the caps can also have a large bulge from time to time, which is another characteristic of Yeti. While Yeti is an albino variety, Yeti x Melmac is not. This is similar to Yeti Pig, which is a pigmented isolation of Yeti.

Microscopic Features

You will see the Yeti x Melmac spores as dark purple to brownish. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps can be a diameter of 50+ mm and commonly have ruffled or crinkled cap endges.  These have diminished spore production from their mutation and only 25 percent will produce spores. So that makes these spores very difficult to acquire, just like the other Penis Envy’s.
