South African Transkei ISO Information

Isolated spore syringes, also known as ISO syringes, contain mushroom genetics that are more stabilized than a normal multispore syringe (MSS). Great care has been taken to isolate the strongest, fastest, and most hardy genetics that will provide vigorous and more consistent research under the microscope. Multispore syringes contain a great deal of genetic diversity, and therefore can present a multitude of different phenotypes. On the other hand, isolated spore syringes have been stabilized in order to present only one phenotype which will provide the most optimized and consistent research. 

This cubensis variety was found in a southern state located in South Africa known as Transkei in 2002. Many of the specifics of the strain like “who found it” and “where exactly” are lost but the story has it they were found growing on some dung underneath trees. Regardless this intriguing strain is great for anyone!

The fruits of African Transkei are an incredible sight whether in nature or in pictures. They contain a medium-sized stem that is actually pretty dense. Its cap is about average size as well as its traditional golden-brown cubensis color. As it grows it changes into a dark brown and flattens into a plane. It has a strong thick veil that tears onto both the cap and stem. Sometimes they might not even tear! Its stem can also twist.

South African Transkei has the appeal of being a newer strain from a unique region. Making it rarer to find in spore libraries. Add it to yours so you can expand you spore variety!

Microscopic Features

South African Transkei has dark purple to brown spores. The spores are also subellipsoid (ellipse) in shape and present on 4-spored basidia. Their prints are generally 25-75mm in diameter and pretty good spore depositors. The caps range from 40-60mm in diameter with a convex to conic shape.
