Scopulicola Information
Trichocereus scopulicola or “Scops” is another species of fast growing columnar cacti that are originally from Bolivia. They are closely related to the San Pedro cactus and can look similar. The main difference between Scop and San Pedro are
- Scops are typically a lighter green color than San Pedro
- Scops typically have very small spines and areoles or can even be completely spineless
- Scops often grow thicker than San Pedro
- Scops commonly do not produce many offsets, whereas San Pedros tend to grow bushy with age
HZ Scop Information
HZ x Scop is an extremely thick growing Trichocereus hybrid- a cross between T. huarazensis and T. scopulicola. Huarazensis is not technically considered to be its own species, moreso a commercial cultivar of Pachanoi. It goes back to Karel Knize who collected some specimens of Huarazensis in Huarez, Peru. From there, US Tricho breeders Misplant and Nitrogen used it in many crosses.
