San Pedro Information
Trichocereus pachanoi or commonly known as “San Pedro” is the fastest growing species of columnar cacti and also produces the largest flowers in the cacti world. Their natural habitat is the higher elevations of South America, specifically in Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, as well as Bolivia. Because of their native habitat, they’re not considered “desert” cacti as they typically deal with damp soils, high elevations, and cooler temperatures.
Crested San Pedro Information
This specific cultivar is known as Trichocereus Pachanoi “Crested”. The crested or “cristata” mutation within the Monstrose cultivars causes amazing brain-like formations that make these cacti look so unique. Although they are much slower growing than your typical San Pedro they are a must have for any collector because of their distinctive look and genetic rarity.
This specific cutting is super unique because its growth looks like a hand! It is currently reverting, however it may always begin cresting again at anytime. But, there is a benefit to having some reverted arms on your crested San Pedro and that is the fact that those arms will allow your cactus to produce flowers. If you are able to successfully pollinate the flower(s) and get seeds, your seeds will have a higher chance of being crested.
