Squat Mac LC Information

Liquid culture syringes (also sometimes called ISO’s) contain mushroom genetics that are more stabilized than normal multispore syringes (MSS). Great care has been taken to isolate the strongest, fastest, and most hardy genetics that will provide vigorous and more consistent research under the microscope. Multispore syringes contain a great deal of genetic diversity, and therefore can present a multitude of different phenotypes. On the other hand, isolated spore syringes have been stabilized in order to present a more uniform phenotype which will provide the most optimized and consistent research.

Squat Mac is an isolation project that was done by TKK that produces massively fat and incredibly dense specimens. It’s specifically an isolate that stems from the legendary Melmac variety. It is considered to be a “designer strain” as many of the newer mushroom varieties are. It gets its name from the squatty and robust shape of the fruiting bodies- they definitely provide interesting looking research! 

Microscopic Features

Squat Macs typically produce spores that are dark purple to black in color. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps and stems are extremely thick and robust, making it look different than most Cubensis.
