Pan Cyan Information

Panaeolus cyanescens is a mushroom species that goes by many names. Some of these include, “Copelandia cyanescens”,“Pan Cyans”, and “Blue Meanies” (make sure not to confuse it with cubensis “Blue Meanies” ). Additionally, they are genetically similar to the species Panaeolus tropicalis.

This species has a very wide geographic distribution and as a result they grow wildly all over the world. Pan cyans are a dung loving species and it is common to find them growing wildly on manure piles. They can also be found growing on a mixture of manure and straw. 

Pan Cyan mushrooms are much smaller compared to P. Cubensis. They tend to be much skinner in the stem, smaller in the cap, and shorter in height. Note that Pan Cyans are an advanced species to work with and have different research conditions than Cubensis spores.

Pan Cyan “Senguio”

Pan Cyan “Senguio” was first found growing in Senguio, Mexico. Senguio is a municipality located in the Sierra de Mil Cumbres mountain range which in the state of Michoacán. Before the Spainish arrival in Mexico, the area was inhabited by Mazahua tribes, nestled between the Tarascan State and Aztec Empire. Though these mushrooms have been around for some time, they are hard to find anywhere else but here!

Pan Cyan fruits are very captivating as they are not as commonly seen as Cubensis. They are generally a longer and thinner stem with a smaller cap. Once they mature they fade into an off-white or light grey color. Senguio follows these traits spot on as they are small in stature but with a hint of yellow in the center. Their caps have a bell shape until they flatten with a central bump.

They drop small prints due to their size and are not very dark. Though these spores are more advanced to research, they also great for intermediate microscopist looking for a great learning experience as well! Microscopic Features

Pan Cyans Senguio have dark purple to black spores which are approximately 12×7 micrometers in size. The spores are elliptical in shape. In addition, they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps vary from 15-40mm in diameter with ovate shape until they mature. They are generally very light spore printers.
