When you buy Leucistic Ecuadorian spores, visibility is dependent on the characteristics of the spores themselves. As a result, not all spore syringes will look the same visibly. Despite any visible differences, they are still viable for microscopy research. More information on how we make our spore syringes and possible visible differences, check out our FAQ or blog post How To Make Spore Syringes.

Leucistic Ecuadorian Mushroom Information

Leucistic mutations are fairly common amongst cubensis mushroom varieties. This specific one was a mutation of the Ecuadorian variety. Leucisitc mutation cause specimens to be white in color. But unlike albinos their spores do still contain pigment. Once viewed under the microscope you can see they are the standard normal/black color. This is great for researchers looking to view something unique underneath the microscope.

Ecuador is a high altitude country surrounded by large mountain range and volcanoes. Here people discovered a variety on a mountain top in over 3,300ft (1100m) high. It is another classic P. Cubensis variety and is very durable, as proved by its discovery at such a high altitude. Furthermore, scientist know this strain to withstand very low and thin oxygen levels. This is unlike many other types of mushrooms or even organisms for that matter. This contributes to their reputation of being a very hardy variety to add to your library.

Because these mushrooms natural environment is harsh and rugged, the spores are more resilient than most. Making it good for beginner microscopist who are getting used to handling spores. Its resilience also becomes evident in the mushroom as its mycelium moves quickly and with aggression.

Ecuadorian mushrooms grow to be a large 10-12 cm with beautiful caramel brown caps. These caps connect to dense white stems that bruise a deep blue when touched. As the convex cap matures it exposes its gills and releases its spores. Scientist know this variety to produce many spores.

It’s important to note that this strains resilience will also posse some difficulties. They will have unique spore traits when viewed with the microscope. These characteristics may be better for intermediate microscopist, but are well worth the learning experience
