Peruvian Torch Information
Trichocereus peruvianus, otherwise known as Peruvian Torch Cactus, is a fast growing columnar cactus that is one of San Pedro’s cousins. It is native to the high elevations of Peru, specifically in the Andes mountains. Their skin can range from dark green to a beautiful blue hue. They are prized for their gorgeous long, yellow spines. They can also achieve great thickness, which is another reason why Peruvian Torches are highly sought after in the cactus community. In similar fashion to it’s cousins Pachanoi, Bridgesii, and Scopulicola, Pervianus product large white, night-blooming flowers that have a lovely fragrance.
MX-11 Information
MX-11 is a T. Peruvianus or Peruvian Torch cultivar from Southern California. It was collected by a Trichocereus collector who sells and trades on Reddit on a local property in Sunland-Tujunga, Los Angeles. This cultivar along with some other Trichocereus were on the property and with the owners permission, arms that had fallen from the wind were taken.
The MX-11 is just a number to categorize the different cacti from the property. There are some that say that this cultivar is also growing at the Huntington Botanical Garden, however I haven’t seen these claims confirmed.
