Bridgesii Information

Trichocereus bridgesii or commonly known as “Bolivian Torch” is a fast growing species of columnar cacti that originates in Bolivia. Their natural habitat is drier and more desert-like compared to San Pedro, meaning the Bolivian Torch does not need as much water as their San Pedro cousins but will still grow almost as quickly.  Bridgesii are highly sought after by ornamental cactus collectors around the world. They are coveted for their beautiful green/blue skin and bright yellow/golden spines, as well as their huge, white flowers.

Skip Jones

Skip Jones, is a Bridgesii cultivar that hails from Shulgin’s Garden. Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin transcends the role of a counterculture or psychonaut figure- he was a pioneer of psychedelics themselves. As an American chemist, he created over 200 psychedelic compounds, most notably of which is 2C-B. He lay the groundwork for MDMA assisted therapy. If you don’t know much about Shulgin I can’t recommend enough to read up on some of his contributions.

Anyways, back to Skip Jones. It received the name Skip Jones after it was gifted directly from Shulgin and his wife, Anne, to a person named Skip Jones after he helped them in a time of need. The amazing thing about this cultivar is it can be traced back directly to Shulgin’s garden in California through Provenance.
