Pan. Tropicalis Information

Panaeolus tropicalis is one of 20 Panaeolus species that have hallucinogenic properties. Physically, it is extremely similar to Panaeolus cyanescens, especially Pan Jams. However, the two species can be distinguished underneath the microscope. In addition to looking like Pan Cyans, Pan Tropicalis is also a very potent psychedelic mushroom. In fact, there is even published research showing that Panaeolus tropicalis has some of the highest concentrations of psilocybin and psilocin of any active species.

This species can be found growing wildly on dung all over the world. It is most commonly spotted growing in tropical regions (hence the name “Tropicalis”) such as Hawaii, Mexico, Central Africa, all over Asia, Tanzania, and in Florida! These genetics are a must have for any serious spore researcher or mycologist.

Microscopic Features

Pan Tropicalis spores are dark purple to black in color. Additionally, they are ellipsoid in shape and approximately 10.5-12 x 7-9 microns in size. The basidia each produce 2 spores, which is how they can be differentiated from other species like Pan Cyans, which have basidia that produce 4 spores. The basidia is the actual reproductive organ that produces the spores.
