Psilocybe Natalensis Information
Psilocybe natalensis is a mushroom species that also sometimes goes by the common name “Natal Super Strain”. It originates in South Africa, specifically in the Natal region. This area is home to the indigenous Zulu people. You can also find a diverse array of wildlife including rhinos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, zebras, elephants, and so much more.
In nature, Natalensis mushroom mycelium is exceptionally thick with rope-like strands that extend out in search of nutrients. While they can get as large as Cubensis, this species generally grows smaller stems and caps. However, Natalensis fruit in very large quantities which makes up for their sometimes small size.
This fungus was discovered in 1995 and since then has become a favorite in the mushroom community for many reasons. For one, it’s just as easy to research as the more common Cubensis– some say Natalensis are actually even easier.
Not only can you study this species with ease, but the results are fast, vigorous, and eye-opening. This species is extremely contam resistant and is known to take over contaminations that try to get in their way. If you’re looking to branch out and study a new species, then you’ll want to consider adding Natalensis to your spore library!
