When you buy TAT Yeti swabs, spore visibility is dependent on the characteristics of the spores themselves. As a result, not all spore swabs will look the same visibly. Despite any visible differences, they’re still viable for microscopy research.

T.A.T. Yeti Spores Information:

True Albino Teachers (TAT) is a genetic line that has become extremely popular within the microscopy community in the last year or so. It’s an entirely new genetic line that was first started by Jik Fibs. OG TAT is what started it all. It was an albino mutation observed in 5 specimens in a tub of Golden Teachers. Jik Fibs then took samples from those albinos and began to isolate the genetics. Soon, it was completely isolated and produced albino mushrooms every time. Following this was the creation of the Facebook group called the “TAT syndicate.” From there, the TAT syndicate began finding new interesting isolation and crosses such as Ghost and AMVP. 

TAT “Yeti” is a further isolation of OG TAT. It took Jik Fibs and the TAT Syndicate about 3 more years after OG TAT was created for Yeti to be fully isolated. They produce relatively large specimens that have a unique white color with blue/gray tops, which is why they were named after the snow monster.

Microscopic Features:

When you buy TAT “Yeti” swabs its important to note that because they are an albino variety, they will have transparent spores. When spores are clear they can bruise blue leading the swab to appear blue rather than clear. Once you put them under the microscope, they will be clear. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. They are approximately 13×8 micrometers in size. The caps vary between 15-40mm in diameter with a convex to ovate shape. It is common for the edges to wrinkle and/or for the veils to not fully tear.
