Penis Envy 6 Spores Information

The Penis Envy 6 strain is the result of an interesting experiment done by a microscopist and mycologist who goes by RogerRabbit on Shroomery. They had an ambitious goal to create a new Penis Envy variety that produces more spores. The motivation behind this is the fact that the original Penis Envy mutation commonly produces a low amount of spores or are unable to leave a spore print at all. In order to achieve their goal, they decided to cross Penis Envy with Texas Orange Cap. The idea was that the TX Orange Cap genetics would allow the hybrid to produce more spores while still retaining the classic Penis Envy Mushroom shape.

The ‘6’ in ‘Penis Envy 6’ stands for ‘F6’ which means the genetics were the sixth generation from the original cross. Despite this, the microscopy community got their hands on the genetics before they could be completely isolated. As a result, some specimens can take on more a “normal” Cubensis look rather than those of the mutated Penis Envy. Even though the specimens don’t always look as originally intended, their genetic make up and interesting background still make it a great Cubensis variety to research!

Microscopic Features

Penis Envy 6 have dark purplish to black spores which are 12 by 8 micrometers in size. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps vary from 30-75mm in diameter with a convex to flat shape.
