Jedi Mind Fuck is a variety of Cubensis mushrooms that has become incredibly popular over the last decade or so. It’s relatively new to the mycology and microscopy community and many consider them as “next generation” genetics.  It was introduced to the scene in the early 2000’s. This may seem like a while ago but when compared to Golden Teachers which have been around since at least the 1980’s or even Psilocybe Mexicana that have been used by Indigenous people for thousands of years, Jedi Mind Fuck is a more modern variety. 

When most people hear the word “Jedi” they instantly think of Star Wars and lightsaber battles of epic proportions. In the Star Wars universe, the Jedi are an order of warriors who try to maintain peace and order in the Universe. Besides using lightsabers, Jedi Mind Tricks are another one of their iconic abilities. This power allows Jedis to control others’ thoughts and emotions undetected. The profound power Jedi Mind Tricks have over the mind is what inspires the name “Jedi Mind Fuck” as this mushroom is believed to have similar abilities. 

Origin Information

The origin story of Jedi Mind Fuck is largely unknown. One thing the community can agree upon is that it’s a fruit from the labor of Myco Joe (or sometimes known as Agar Joe). What we don’t know is if it was found growing in the wild, similar to a lot of other Cubensis such as Nepal Chitwan or Thai Pink Buffalo, or if it is a genetic offshoot of Z-Strain. Whatever the case, once Myco Joe began working with it and realized all of its positive characteristics, he knew he had to continue isolating and working with it before finally sharing the genetics with others. 

Since then, Jedi Mind Fuck has exploded in popularity and these genetics can probably be found in spore libraries all around the world. This variety is resistant to contamination, very easy to research under the microscope, and in nature they can produce massive caps that drop dark purple or black spore prints that contain trillions of spores. Due to these qualities, as well as its mind bending capabilities, it has been cemented as a staple variety for both beginner and advanced researchers alike.

Microscopic Features

Jedi Mind Fuck spores have extremely dark purple to black spores which are approximately 13 x 8 micrometers in size. The spores are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps are 40-60mm in diameter with a convex to conic shape and are generally very heavy spore depositors.
