Bridgesii Information

Trichocereus bridgesii (syn. Echinopsis lagenformis) or commonly known as “Bolivian Torch” is a fast growing species of columnar cacti that originates in Bolivia. Their natural habitat is drier and more desert-like compared to San Pedro, meaning the Bolivian Torch does not need as much water as their San Pedro cousins but will still grow almost as quickly.  Bridgesii are highly sought after by ornamental cactus collectors around the world. They are coveted for their beautiful green/blue skin and bright yellow/golden spines, as well as their huge, white flowers.

Chemical Shaman’s Dick Information

Chemical Shaman’s Dick (CSD) is one of the most sought after Bridgesii clones in the community. Not only does it produce extremely unique growth (since it was grown from seed in 2007, there has been nothing seen quite like it yet), but it has an interesting history. 

This gets a little confusing so hold on tight. CSD was originally seed grown by Shaman Australis Botanicals (SAB) group member Sam Frankel (aka Ferret). They also held a giveaway in 2014 for this clone and dubbed it “Chemical Shaman’s Dick” after fellow SAB board member Denis Shaw (aka Chemical Shaman) had passed away 4 years earlier. CSD is known to get very thick and girthy, unlike many other Bridgesii who tend to stay skinnier. It’s also very slow growing, but the growth it puts off is very wrinkled. It almost looks like it’s melting over itself. Also, the base is very smooth and blocky. Many compare it to Peyote growth. The interesting thing though is that the looks can change depending on the growing conditions. For example, if it is growing slower on its own roots, it tends to put off that wrinkled, tapered look but if it is growing quickly on a graft stock, it can put off the more typical, normal looking Bridgesii growth. Furthermore, the spines can also vary in length. It is definitely a mysterious and beautiful cactus.
