Oak Ridge Spores Information
This Cubensis variety originates from Oak Ridge, TN. Their discoverer is a forager and mycologist who goes by the alias “Jeetered”. Jeetered found specimens growing on horse dung a few miles away from the Y12 National Nuclear Laboratory.
This laboratory is now a nuclear safety and security facility that has a historical significance during WWII. It was built during the Manhattan Project with the purpose of enriching uranium in order to create the first atomic bombs.
At the time of their discovery, these Oak Ridge mushrooms were the furthest north that Cubensis had ever been collected and recorded in the US. It’s known as a cold-hardy variety. Thus, even if you live in a cold environment you can still get good research from these spores.
Oak Ridge specimens have a picture-perfect Cubensis look with long cream colored or white stems and proportionally sized caps on top. The caps are golden brown and tend to be medium sized.
Oak Ridge spores are favored among researchers for a multitude of reasons. To start with, once you get them under the microscope they provide mind blowing research. Indeed, the results are often vigorous, fast, and strong. Additionally, the spores produce large mushroom flushes with full canopies when allowed to germinate in the wild. Another thing about this variety is that it is reported to be resistant to diseases and contaminations. This makes studying them a breeze! To conclude, this is definitely a Cubensis variety you’ll want to check out!

Microscopic Features
Oak Ridge mushroom spores can vary in color from dark purple to black. There are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped. Additionally, they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps range anywhere from 20-75mm in diameter with a convex shape that later flattens with age. Moreover, stems are generally large and measure between 150-200mm, sometimes even larger. The caps of Oak Ridge mushroom specimens usually leave behind very dark prints and for that reason they’re excellent for providing future research specimens.
