It’s easy to say that Golden Teachers are one of the classic, most highly sought-after P. Cubensis varieties. To give some background, Golden Teachers first appeared in the microscopy and mycology scene in the 1980’s. The variety’s origin is unknown, many say that it was discovered growing on a farm in Georgia, while others say it was actually Florida. The specimens were thriving on a pile of dung and straw and had very robust stems. They were likely named for their alluring golden colored caps and from the knowledge the spores have become so well known for spreading. From here, its popularity has only continued to grow.

Microscopic Features

Spores from Golden Teacher mushrooms can vary in color from dark purple to black. They’re are subellipsoid (ellipse) shaped and they are present on a 4-spored basidia. The caps range from 40-60mm in diameter with a convex to conic shape. As mentioned before, caps with a stunning golden color are characteristic of this variety. Generally, Golden Teachers leave behind very dark prints which makes them excellent for providing future research specimens.
