Gourmet Liquid Cultures: Storage & Use
Storage:
- Gourmet liquid culture syringes are best stored at room temperature. Because a liquid culture is live mycelium, it’s more susceptible to cold/hot temperatures.
- Liquid cultures can remain viable for approximately 6 months, but it is best to use them as soon as possible.
- DO NOT FREEZE
How To Use:
- For best results, use in a sterile environment! In front of laminar flow and/or a HEPA filter is ideal, but still air boxes (SAB) or in a small, freshly sterilized room with no air flow can work. Note that there is an increased risk of contamination if not used in a completely sterile environment
- We make all of our liquid cultures in front of laminar flow hoods with HEPA filter to ensure the cleanest possible products
- Be sure to wear a mask and gloves when handling liquid culture syringes.
- Sterilize the entire syringe with 70-85% isopropyl alcohol before using
- Open needle’s sterile packaging
- Remove black cap from syringe and then quickly attach needle to the syringe
- The needle should always be flame sterilized before every use. Let needle cool and then dispense liquid culture into your growing medium
- It is recommended to use ~1cc of gourmet liquid culture for every 1 pound of substrate
